Today was our first day out on the boat! We left bright and early and headed to the dock to catch the boat that would take us out for our first boat snorkel/dive. We visited two sites this morning, Great Wall West, and Donna’s Delight. Lucy and Cavan took to the deep to collect REEF data and Sophie and Adeline explored shallower waters. We saw a hawksbill turtle, sting ray, and a variety of fish, and sharks. These two dive sites were pretty amazing in the fact that they are a huge wall. We descended off the dive boat to about 30 feet and then swam over the edge. When you look down, it is nothing but dark blue. This wall is known for being the most photographed in the Cayman Islands. It is said to be 6000 feet deep, we stayed around 50…
After lunch we enjoyed a lecture about the kind of research that CCMI conducts. We had the afternoon to work on our journals and project work. After dinner we headed to the ocean again for another night snorkel. We were very excited to see lots of lobster, a large nurse shark, and octopus. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
